Méribel’s vast network of pristine pistes are renowned for leaving skiers with that oddly satisfying leg burn only a great day in the mountains can deliver. With roughly 600 km of runs to explore across the three valleys, you’d be forgiven for scheduling a day off the skis to recover.
Contrary to popular belief, a day off the slopes in Méribel is far from a day wasted. In fact, there’s so much to do in this picturesque little town, we almost recommend it.
From indulgent spa treatments to leisurely shopping trips, here's your guide to making the most of your day off in Méribel.
Indulge in Spa Treatments and Massages
One of the best ways to soothe sore muscles after days of skiing is by treating yourself to a spa day.
Méribel is home to several luxury spas that offer a range of treatments designed to rejuvenate both body and mind. Opt for a deep-tissue massage to relieve tension or a facial treatment to refresh your skin after exposure to the cold.
Many spas also feature saunas, steam rooms, and hot tubs, providing the perfect setting for relaxation. It's a blissful way to unwind and pamper yourself amidst the tranquillity of the Alps.
Don’t want to leave the comfort of your Ski Cuisine chalet? Massage Me, Méribel offers a mobile massage service and they’ll visit your chalet at a time that suits you. After bluebird days, Massage Me’s masseuses are some of the busiest people in the resort so booking in advance is recommended.
Enjoy Leisurely Long Lunches
Méribel boasts an array of delicious dining options that cater to every taste. A day off from skiing presents the perfect opportunity to enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the resort's renowned restaurants.
Savour traditional Savoyard dishes such as fondue and raclette, or choose from international cuisines available in town.
Many establishments offer sun-drenched terraces with spectacular mountain views, allowing you to bask in the beauty of your surroundings while enjoying a memorable meal.
Our top restaurant tips:
Clos Bernard is in a magical setting in the Altiport forest, accessed either by a pathway walk on a marked trail or by horse drawn sleigh. Once you arrive at the restaurant, you'll have wonderful views and both interior or exterior dining options. Alternatively you could walk or take the free bus to Méribel Village which is one of the original hamlets of Méribel; lunch at La Terrasse du Village is highly recommended and why not stay on for their legendary après ski!
Explore Méribel's Shopping Scene
Shopping in Méribel is a unique experience, with boutiques and shops offering everything from high-end ski gear to local artisan crafts.
Spend your day meandering through the town centre, where you'll find stylish clothing stores, charming souvenir shops and artisan food stalls when the Tuesday and Friday market is held on the main street in Méribel centre.
If delicious food is as high on your agenda as it is ours, you must visit Méribel’s main boulangerie and sample the mouthwatering chocolates, cakes and patisseries or enjoy a hot chocolate in many of the cafés and bars that Méribel has to offer.
Rendez-vous at the Bowling Alley and Ice Rink!
For those seeking a fun and active way to spend their day off, Méribel's bowling alley and ice rink offer fantastic alternatives to a day on the slopes.
The bowling alley is a popular evening spot and has a lively atmosphere. During the day it’s the perfect place to keep the competitive juices flowing without pulling on the ski boots.
Alternatively, the ice rink provides a magical setting to glide across the ice, with sessions available for all ages and skill levels (if your calves are up to it). Whether you're a seasoned skater or trying it for the first time, it's a cool, alpine experience that'll create lasting memories and look great on Instagram.
The Hosts with the Most
We hope this guide has convinced you that a day spent off the slopes in Méribel is far from a day wasted. If you do stay with us here at Ski Cuisine, remember to speak to your chalet host to get the inside scoop on the best things to do in town.
Remember, there’s no recommendation like a seasonnaire's recommendation!
